A few days ago I finally had a two way CW contact with Rick PY2EL on 40 meters, still looking to work as many PY and South American stations as possible over the next few months.

Its winter South of the Equator!!  40m condx between VK6 and South America are on the rise. As there are many stations that need zone 29 for there WAZ & 5B WAZ I hope the comming season is a good one.

Myself and a group of VK6’s will be on almost daily looking for South America, please feel free to listen out for us.

We do have a current shed with Brazil on 7088 (ssb) and 7008 (cw) and will try RTTY when condx allow, times follow..

9.15 to 10.15 utc (sunset in vk6) and 21.45 to 22.45 (sunrise in VK6).

So far all contacts made have been on the short path, over the South Pole but long path openings at the same times are expected also.

We will also continue to listen for LU2FCB and hope to make more contacts with AD.

Ad LU2FCB has been like a beacon on 7050 for a few months now, we have listened out for him almost daily at arround 22 utc. Same result everyday we can not here Ad !

On Sunday 26 April the breakthough finally came, at 22.17 utc after sometime was spent getting the Yagi heading just right a two way ssb contact was made between LU’land and zone 29 (LU2FCB & VK6IR). This has been followed by more qso’s on the 27th & 28th of April. Ecellent signals have been received on both ends with reports up to 57. LW4EU was also worked on the 28th of April by myself and VK6IA (Andrew).

So What!! you are thinking! The VK6 to South America path is a very hard path and not open all that often, and usually there is heavy qrm from other parts of the world.

We are still trying to work PY, with PY7ZZ & some PY2 stations being heard on the 26,27 & 28 of April but not strong enough to work.
